The Makeup Essentials I Can’t Be Without

When it comes to makeup, I like form and function: I don’t want it to feel or look like I have a lot of makeup on, but when I do wear it I want it to look good, I want my skin to show through, and I want colour too.

Here are the makeup essentials that I can’t be without in 2020…

1. Tinted moisturizer

I’ve been using this product for a very long time, and what I love about it is how light it is on my skin. I get the coverage, a great finish, and I don’t even have to work too hard to put it on. On most days I’ll apply it with a tightly packed face blending brush, but you can also put it on with your fingers. I wear the shade Polynesia, and its a glorious colour match for me.

2. Mascara

Cheap and cheerful, one of my favourite mascaras is Maybelline The Colossal Volume Express. It separates and lifts my lashes, and I find that it defines my eyes when I’m wearing my eyeglasses.

3. A Statement Lip

So, as a lipstick and mascara kind of woman, I have a lot of lipsticks!. I somehow managed to narrow my must-haves down to just four, and they are Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Mysterious Red (my red pick) Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Red Square (my orange-y-red pick), Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Damned (my absolute favourite lipstick of all time), and YSL Rouge Pur Couture Lipstick in #212 – Alternative Plum (another great purple pick).

4. A Nude Lip

If you’re a lady who reserves a bright lip for a special occasion, then consider picking up a nude lipstick. Strangely enough, this bright lipstick lover (me!) owns quite a few nudes for those days when I actually put on eyeshadow or just want a no-makeup look. My favourite nudes are Nars Satin Lip Pencil in Het Loo, Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Bahama, and Shiseido Lacquer Gloss in OR 303.

5. An Everday Blush

An everyday blush is essential to my makeup looks. I have one favourite blush that I put on every time I wear my tinted moisturizer: Nars Lovejoy. The name is awesome, the colour is perfection, and a little bit goes a long way.

6. A Statement blush

You know how I wear Nars Exhibit A, my statement blush? I wear it with my Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Red Square. They were made for each other:

I put on Exhibit A very lightly on the cheeks and then I finish with Red Square. I love wearing these two together in the summer when my skin gets that special golden glow!

So, what are your makeup essentials?
